Safeguarding and Child Protection Coordinator

Susan set up the Nursery in 1997 after her twin sister returned to work and needed childcare for her son and daughter.

Susan has a BA (Hons) in Early Years (level 6), a Foundation Degree in Early Years (level 5) a level 4 in Management, a level 3 in Play work (5-15 years) a level 3 in Early Years.

Susan is the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) leader and is responsible for leadership of the setting including, Safeguarding, Behaviour Management and Equality and Diversity.  After the birth of her daughter Neve in 2009 Susan returned to work 4 x days a week and is supported by two deputy managers.

Susan has lived in Preston all her life and is well known in the local community.

Lucy Hopper

Lucy joined the Nursery as a level 2 Nursery Assistant in 2004, she was promoted to Supervisor and then Deputy Manager. She has a level 3 in Early Years, A L3 in Management and  a level 4 in Early Years.  After the birth of her son, Lucy returned on a part time basis.  She is the Nursery SENCO as special needs is her particular interest.  Lucy manages the 2-3 room (Chickadees) and the 3-4 preschool room (Bluebirds).

Thelma joined the Nursery to support Susan and Lucy in 2007 as a Nursery Supervisor of the 0 - 2 room. She was promoted to Deputy Manager to cover Lucy's maternity leave and now Lucy and Thelma share the Deputy responsibilities.   Thelma has a Level 2 and Level 3 in Early Years and is studying for a level 4 in Early Years.  She quickly proved invaluable particularly in the office and is the main Office Administrator. She is responsible for Health and Safety. Thelma manages the 0-18 month room (Baby Buntings) and the 18 month -2 1/2 year room(Robins)

Rebecca McMaster 

Becky’s son attended the nursery from 2008 and Becky soon joined the Nursery as a level 1 Nursery Assistant. Becky has since gained her level 2 and Level 3 in Early Years. Becky is the leader of our  0 - 18 month room (the Baby Buntings).

Carina Culliney

Carina joined the Kids Club to cover maternity leave in 2010.  She has a level 2 in Play work (5-15 years) and a level 3 in Early Years. Her particular interest is art.

Laura Coverdale

Laura joined the nursery in 2004.  She has a level 2 and level 3 in Early Years.  After her return from maternity leave she brings her son to Songbirds.  Laura works with age ranges from 0-3 years.

Jo Bird

Jo has worked at the Nursery since 2007.  She has many years experience of childcare settings and has a level 3 in Early Years.  After the birth of her son she has returned part time. She is now our Cook and enjoys planning nutritous child friendly meals.

Kim Dunn

Kim was taken on to cover maternity leave in 2010 and has completed a level 2 in Early Years. Kim is based in the 18 month - 2 1/2 year room (the Robins).

Sammy Thomas

Sammy was our student in 2010 and impressed us so much we took her on as an Apprentice (the first one in the East Riding from Hull College). She has since completed her level 2.  Sammy is based in the 2-3 year room (the Chickadees).

Patsy Dale

Patsy was taken on to cover maternity leave in 2010.  She has a level 3 in Early Years.  Patsy has a wealth of experience of early years, having worked as a nursery nurse in a school and she has also been a Nursery Manager at another setting. Patsy is based in the 3-4 year pre school room (the Bluebirds).

Rachel Dale

Rachel applied for a job at the nursery in 2010 when we needed extra staff to cover maternity leave.  Her mum Patsy recommended us to her.  She has a level 2 and Level 3 in Early Years. Rachel is very creative and works especially well with 2 year olds. Rachel is based in the 2 - 3 year room (the Chickadees).

Rachel Kirkwood

Rachel has worked for me since 2003, she had a few years break when she left to do childminding with a colleague but returned to work here in 2010.  She has a level 3 in Early Years. Rachel is based in the 18 month - 2 1/2 years room (the Robins).

Carina Jenson

Carina has worked for Songbirds since 2007.  She has had many years experience in private day care.  She has returned to work part time after the birth of her baby who she brings to Songbirds.  Carina covers the age range from 18 months - 5 years..

Tracy Hope

Tracy first worked for me in 2003 for several years then left for a while.  She returned in 2011 to cover maternity leave for staff in the Kids Club and also for holiday cover in the nursery.

Jess Corns

Jess was our student and we took her on to cover holidays for summer 2011. Jess is based in the 18 months - 2 1/2 year room (the Robins).
